On September 28, 2010, the Company opened the first Family Dollar store to meet LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification standards. The store, located at 250 South Main Street in Woodruff, SC, is uniquely built with a building envelope containing heavier insulation used to reduce air conditioning costs and conserve energy. It also features four large skylights built into the roof for lower electricity usage and greater light savings.
“This opening is a significant step in Family Dollar’s commitment to the communities we serve,” said Keith Gehl, Senior Vice President of Real Estate and Facilities. “This first-of-its-kind store for Family Dollar not only combines our new and improved layout and design, but also is built to lower our carbon footprint on the environment.”
