Yummy Recipes That Won’t Break The Bank

When you have a big family (and I do), it seems like there is always yet another get-together to attend. I’m not complaining (that much), but it can get expensive to make something for every event. And since I like to make sure the little ones have a kid-pleasing choice, I almost always find myself making two different things.

Thus the need to come up with yummy recipes that won’t break the bank! All the ingredients can be found at Family Dollar. The expanded grocery selection is making it a one-stop shop for me, and the prices are so budget-friendly.

So let’s make some yummy!

Berry Fluff

Since kids always seem to be drawn to JELL-O desserts, this Berry Fluff is always a hit. It can easily be changed to another flavor, but my favorite is strawberry.

2 3.4oz boxes vanilla instant pudding

2 3oz boxes strawberry JELL-O

2 cups water, heated to boil

2 8oz containers Cool Whip

1/2 bag mini marshmallows

1. Dump contents of pudding and JELL-O boxes into a large bowl. Add 2 cups boiling water and stir until dissolved and well mixed. Let sit in refrigerator for an hour or so until thickened.

2. Remove from fridge. Whisk the mixture until smooth. (It will be very thick and hard to manipulate)

3. Once it’s smooth, stir in the two containers of Cool Whip. It will start to be much easier to stir once you add them.

3. Fold in the mini marshmallows.

Keep refrigerated until serving.

Apple Pie Dump Cake

Another easy and inexpensive recipe is Apple Pie Dump Cake. With only four ingredients, it’s very easy on the wallet but can feed a crowd of people.

1 21 oz can apple pie filling

1 20oz can crushed pineapple

1 box yellow cake mix

1 stick of butter

1. Heat oven to 325 degrees. Lightly coat 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan with cooking spray.

2. Pour pie filling into bottom of pan. Add crushed pineapple on top of apples, then sprinkle cake mix on top of pineapple layer.

3. Put slices of butter across the top of the cake mix.

4. Bake 40-45 minutes or until topping is golden brown.
