DIY Red, White and Blue Slime Party Favors

This post is brought to you by Family Dollar.

Are you ready for the 4th of July? Summer party season is in full swing and I've got a great idea for a fun party favor. Red, White and Blue Slime will be a hit with all ages, and this version is borax-free!

Visit your local Family Dollar and take a peek in the kitchen gadget section. That's where you'll find these mini storage boxes that are perfect for storing your slime. Then head over to the baking aisle to pick up food color and baking soda. The only other supply you'll need is a little clear glue.

To make your slime, you’ll need:

  • ¾ Cup Clear School Glue
  • ¼ Cup Baking Soda
  • 2 Cups Warm Water
  • Red and Blue Food Color
  • Bowl
  • Large Measuring Cup
  • Small Containers for Storage

Add 3/4 cup of clear glue to one bowl. Add 1/4 cup of baking soda to a large measuring cup with 2 cups of warm water. Stir the baking soda until it's completely dissolved.

Once it has cooled to room temperature, slowly pour the baking soda mixture into the glue while stirring. Slime will start to form.

If you're familiar with borax slime, here's where you should note that this slime won't come together in quite the same way. It forms slower and there will be a lot of leftover water in the bowl. Once the slime is fully formed, remove the slime from the bowl and begin to work it with your hands. Make sure you do this on a safe surface because this slime will be runny. Working on a plate or tray with a raised edge will help you avoid making a mess.

Once you've worked the slime long enough to remove most of the excess water it's time to add color. Take a third of your slime and add a little blue food coloring. Work the slime in your hands again to distribute the color. If you’re worried about getting food color on your hands, you can wear plastic gloves until the slime’s color is fully mixed.

Repeat the process again with red food dye.

Your white slime is already done, no color needed! Store the slime inside of the mini storage boxes until you're ready to play. The slime should last indefinitely as long as you keep in in a sealed container.

Keep the colors separate or swirl them all together. There's no wrong way to play with your slime!

Just remember that this slime is going to be a little runnier than borax slime, so keep it outside or play with it on safe surfaces to avoid making a mess. One batch of the recipe will fill three of the storage boxes from Family Dollar, so multiply accordingly to use them as party favors during your Independence Day celebration.
