Natural Hair Care Tips For Busy Moms

This post is sponsored by Family Dollar. As usual, all opinions are my own.

My choice to start wearing my hair natural was strongly influenced by motherhood. Do you know what else motherhood influences? Time. As moms, we all struggle with finding time to care for and style our hair but that doesn't mean it can't be done. When my hair is healthy and looks good, I feel really confident. While I try my best, it's a bit harder in the winter so when Family Dollar recently asked me to try out the new Pantene Pro-V Gold products line, I was excited to see if it would be the answer to achieving my hair goals during the winter. I wanted to share my experience, plus some natural hair care tips for busy moms who want to look their best during the cold months:

Co-wash your hair more often and scale back on shampoo.
Natural hair tends to dry out really easily and as we try to stay warm our wool hats and scarves make our hair even drier. To keep the dryness at bay, I only use shampoo if my hair has product build-up which works out to about once a month. The Pantene Pro-V Gold deep hydrating Co-Wash is sulfate-free and contains argan oil. It’s one of my favorites so that my hair keeps it's moisture but I get that clean feeling. If you need to shampoo, you can take advantage of the Gold Series Moisture Boost Shampoo.

Don't skip deep-conditioning.
I'm tempted to skip my deep conditioner more often than I would like to admit, especially with so many things on my to-do list. But my hair looks better and is much more manageable when I don't skip it. I deep conditioned this past weekend with the Repairing Mask. I really liked this mask because it only needed to be on my hair for 5-7 minutes to work its magic. My hair was shiny and more importantly, there weren't any knots or that hard feeling some deep conditioners cause.

Detangle carefully.
Curly hair can get matted and it knots easily. It's important to detangle in a timely manner but with care, since our hair is weakest when it's wet. I always use my fingers to part my hair into sections and work through them, starting from the roots. The Detangling-Milk from the Pantene Pro-V line was perfect because it strengthened my wet strands and reduced frizz, which was better for styling.

Stick to a low-maintenance protective style.
I try to stick to a low-maintenance protective style that can be done quickly. Currently, I am loving goddess braids because they're stylish but so low maintenance that I only have to redo them every two days. That means less manipulation of my hair and protecting my ends from the harsh cold weather. When I take down my braids every two days, I add a little bit of the hydrating butter to get rid of any frizz. Doing this also adds some shine and moisture to my tresses. Other mom friendly low-maintenance styles that you can try include two strand twists, flat twists, buns and comb twists. If you find that your hair is really dry, try the Intense Hydrating Oil to get that much needed moisture.
