TWO WAYS TO ROCK THE GLOSSY MAKEUP TREND

THIS POST IS SPONSORED BY FAMILY DOLLAR, BUT ALL OPINIONS ARE, AS ALWAYS, MY OWN. THANKS FOR SUPPORTING THE BRANDS THAT SUPPORT THIS BLOG!

I feel like 2017 has been the year that I finally got my makeup game together. I kept my eyebrows fleeky, I finally learned how to apply false lashes, and I layered on highlighter to amplify my marital glow. Now that I’ve mastered the basics, I’m excited to try some trendier makeup looks. And thanks to Family Dollar, I don’t have to spend a lot of money playing with beauty trends!

I’ve seen the glossy makeup trend in editorial spreads and on the runway, but I haven’t mustered up the courage to try it. Whether on your eyes, lips, or cheeks, high-shine gloss is slowly edging out matte as the preferred makeup finish. As summer winds down and the weather gets slightly cooler, I thought it would be the perfect time to play with the glossy makeup trend. Here are two ways to rock it!

FOR BEGINNERS: GLOSSY LIPS

To achieve this look, I applied Wet n Wild's Mega Last Lip Color in Red Velvet all over my lips. It has a semi-matte finish, so it's the perfect base to layer under a gloss. I then took a lip brush and lightly swiped on L.A. COLORS Glossy Lips in Popsicle Dream for a glossy bright red lip.

To keep my eyes neutral, I used the brown and purple-ish mauve colors in the L.A. COLORS 12 Color Eyeshadow Palette in Chic and accented with L.A. COLORS Lashes in Dainty and finished off the look with Wet n Wild Proline Felt Tip Eyeliner.

FOR RISK TAKERS: GLOSSY LIDS & CHEEKS

Now if you really want to go for the glossy makeup trend, the number one way to have high impact gloss is to layer gloss on your eyelids. Start by priming your lids with eyeshadow primer to help the shadow stay in place. Then sweep on a matte eyeshadow in a neutral shade, like a brown from the L.A. COLORS 12 Color Eyeshadow Palette in Chic, over your eyelid. If you skip the primer and just use the shadow, the shadow will slip and slide underneath the gloss, which is no bueno! Using your fingers, gently dab L.A. COLORS Glossy Lips in Popsicle Dream onto your eyelids in very light layers. If you do too much, it’ll get sticky and uncomfortable to blink, so be careful! If you run into sticky problems, just take shea butter or coconut oil and mix it in with the gloss.

I paired my glossy lid with a neutral lipstick, L.A. COLORS Matte Lipstick in ‘In Love,’ and added a few taps of gloss on my cheekbones for a glossy highlight.

WHICH GLOSSY MAKEUP LOOK DO YOU LIKE BETTER?

If you like my hair, I recorded a YouTube video of how I achieved this faux bun! I used Cantu Shea Butter Twist and Lock Gel, a metal afro pick, and some metallic clips from Family Dollar (all pictured above) to get this look too!

HAVE YOU TRIED GLOSSY LIPS, GLOSSY LIDS, OR GLOSSY CHEEKS? YAY OR NAY?
