The first Saturday after Thanksgiving is Tree Day at our house. We designate the whole day to cutting down a tree and decorating it as a family. This is our sixth year to do it as a little family!
When we were first married, I invested in some beautiful glass ornaments. They were beautiful and worked well until our first daughter came along and was big enough to pull the ornaments off the tree! Throughout the years, I never replaced the glass ornaments. I would just hang them higher and higher on the tree out of the reach of tiny hands. This year I have three little kids in the house. That’s six little hands that could break glass ornaments, so I knew I needed a new plan this year as far as the ornament decorating went. I love decorating the tree as a family, but did not love the stress that breaking glass ornaments brought.
I headed to Family Dollar the day before we cut our tree and spent less than $20 on new ornaments. I was absolutely amazed at their selection! All of the ornaments that I chose were plastic, yet they looked just as beautiful as my glass ornaments at home. I wanted my color scheme to be gold and red this year.
I was able to find a ton of ornaments in this color scheme! I chose some red glitter shatterproof balls, gold and red finials, three sets of 3D glitter ornaments and a package of vintage looking assorted ornaments. The 3D ornaments are hands down my favorite! I chose angels and Christmas trees – they really added a lot of glitter and dimension to our tree!
The next day was our Tree Cutting Day! We headed to a local Christmas tree farm and cut down our tree.
