Father's Day Framed Picture Collage DIY with Family Dollar

Dads are amazing, aren't they? Every year, I try to find a new way to show my husband just how much his family loves him. And for us, it's always personal. I love using pictures of our family, especially our kids to highlight amazing memories, sweet smiles and most importantly the unconditional love that binds us together.

When Family Dollar gave me the challenge to make Dad the perfect Father's Day gift, I knew right away it had to include pictures of our family. So that's how this DIY Father's Day Framed Collage came to be. Combining the simple and clean look that Dad loves with a little masculinity and playfulness, this reusable picture collage is the perfect display of Dad's favorite memories. And who could resist making this amazing framed artwork for under $15?

Heading to Family Dollar, I was immediately inspired by this beautiful piece of pine wood...which happened to be an Over The Sink Shelf in the kitchen department! And from there, my creativity ensued. You don't have to be "handy" to make this amazing picture display. (I certainly am not!) Here's how to make Dad the perfect DIY picture frame.

What You Will Need:

  • (1) Over The Sink Shelf - only $5 at Family Dollar
  • (5) 3.5 x 5 Magnetic Photo Frames - only $1 each at Family Dollar
  • (5) Metal Clips (from craft store) to hold your photo frames
  • Scrabble Letters to spell "DADDY"
  • 1.5 inch Finishing Nails (Did you know they sell these at Family Dollar too?)
  • (2) Damage Free Picturing Hanging Strips
  • Hammer
  • Glue
  • Measuring Tape/Level
  • Pencil

Directions:

First, we need to mark the spots to hang the 5 picture frames. Using your measuring tape/level and pencil, measure across the top edge of the wood plank (about 1/4 inch down), in the middle/halfway (15 inches for my shelf). Mark with a pencil. Hammer the finishing nail into the wood, about 1/2 inch deep. Your clip should be able to slide onto the nail and hold in place at the nail head. Adjust as necessary. Now we're going to measure for the rest of the clips.

Measure about 3.5 inches from the sides of the plank of wood, 1/4 inch down from the top. Mark with a pencil and hammer in 2 more finishing nails. You should have 3 nails in place, 1 in the middle, and 2 - 3.5 inches from the ends.

Now we're going to measure and mark halfway between the middle nail and the end nails for the last 2 picture frames. This should be about 5.75 inches in between the sides and the middle nails. Hammer in the last 2 finishing nails.

Now we can place the magnetic picture frames in the clips (make sure to choose Dad's favorite pictures to hang). Hang the clips from each finishing nail.

Time to get out the glue and our Scrabble letters. Glue the letters across the clips, spelling out "DADDY" on the tops of all 5 clips.

Now it's time to hang your amazing framed art! Using your Damage Free Picture Hanging Strips, attach your wood plank to the wall. DONE!

This DIY Father's Day Framed Collage is the perfect addition to Dad's office, the family room or anywhere! You can easily swap out pictures as the kids grow. And for under $15, it's such a steal DIY for professional hanging artwork! Let Dad know how much you love him this Father's Day with a DIY project that reminds him of the most important people in his life.
